2008 BMW Questions and Answers

  • Options for Carrying Up to Four Bikes with 2008 BMW X5
  • The best option to carry up to four bikes on your BMW X5 would be a hitch mounted bike rack. If you do not already have a hitch installed, I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Hitch, part # 75600. Although we have many different 4-bike racks to choose from, I really like the Thule Hitching Post Pro, part # TH934XTR. The rack includes crucial features like an anti-rattle hitch pin and anti-sway bike cradles to prevent the bikes from swaying back and forth and striking each other or the re

  • Will a Thule Cargo Box Fit a Rola Roof Rack
  • The Rola bars measure 3-1/8 inches wide which is going to be compatible with most Thule cargo boxes currently in production. If you can tell me which Thule box you have or are looking at I can determine fit. The Atlantis and Ascent boxes using the QuickGrip system will fit. Some of the other Thule boxes both past and present use u-bolts. From what I could find, they are all wide enough to fit around the Rola bars.

  • Recommendation for Carrying the Most Bikes on a 2008 BMW 335i Convertible
  • The best option for carrying the most bikes on your 2008 BMW 3 Series is to use a trunk mount bike rack. The most popular 3 bike model for your convertible is the Yakima KingJoe Pro, # Y02625. This is a versatile 3 bike rack that is light weight and has anti-sway cradles. With a trailer hitch, you would be limited to carrying just 2 bikes because that is all a Class I trailer hitch is rated for. If you will be carrying womens, childrens, or alternative frame bikes I recommend using the T

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2008 BMW X3
  • The Curt Hitch # 13573 that you referenced would be a great choice for your 2008 BMW X3 for a hitch and would work well with the Swagman Trailhead 2 Bike Carrier # S63360. Check out the installation instructions and video I attached for these products. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without a horizontal top tube you might also be interested in purchasing a Thule Bike Adapter Bar # TH982XT to provide a horizontal top tube for the rack to attach to. • Pairing Problems with the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Brake Controller and a 2008 BMW X5
  • There are very precise steps that you must take to make sure the RF brake controller, # 90250, will pair with the hand held unit. First, make sure the trailer is coupled to the towing vehicle. Then plug the RF into the tow vehicle connector making sure the trailers connector is not connected to the RF yet. Next, start the tow vehicle engine and then plug the hand-held unit into the auxiliary power port. Turn the power knob until the display reads a flashing 0.0. Then, press and hold both the

  • Recommendation For Hitch Bike Rack on 2008 BMW X3
  • To recommend a hitch bike rack I would need to know how many bikes and the weight and types of bikes you want to transport. A bike rack you might want to start with would be the Thule Vertex 2 Bike Carrier, part # TH9028. This is one of the newest models from Thule and can carry 2 bikes and has a maximum weight capacity of 70 lbs. It will install into either a 1-1/4 inch hitch and a 2 inch hitch. • Powered Tail Light Converter for a 2008 BMW X3 and Trailer with Separate Brake and Turn Lights
  • The # 119177KIT could be used on your 2008 BMW X3. However, in addition to the 5 wire converter, you will need another converter, # 118158. The reason is the 5 wire converter will combine the brake and turn signals. Since your trailer has separate turn and brake lights, the second converter is needed. The running light circuit will bypass the second converter. Only the ground, right turn/brake and left turn/brake will going into the converter. What I would do is cut off the 5-Way connector o

  • Will a Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Interfere with the Parking Sensors on a 2008 BMW 5 Series
  • In all likelihood, the bike rack when installed would trip the sensors on your BMW 5 series, but only when you are in reverse. It would only be a minor inconvenience at most since they will only be working when the vehicle is in reverse. If you are frequently in situations where parking space is an issue and you need the sensors then you would need to remove the bikes and the rack beforehand. With the Curt trailer hitch, you will also need to use a stabilization strap, # 18050, to be in c

  • What Does GTW and TW Mean and What is Weight Distribution, 2008 BMW X5
  • I can certainly help you out. The TW is the tongue weight. This is the weight of the trailer at the coupler that attaches to the ball mount on the trailer hitch. It should be 10 to 15 percent of the GTW or gross trailer weight. The gross trailer weight is the total weight of the trailer. Weight distribution is a system that installs on the trailer frame and the trailer couples to a special shank on the trailer hitch. The spring bars that come with a weight distribution system take some of the

  • The Softride Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Bolt, # SR25056, will go through the pin hole on your trailer hitch and screws into the threaded holes on the shank of the Softride bike rack or cargo carrier. The stainless steel bolt is not short it is actually long enough because you are tightening the side of the shank on the bike rack or cargo carrier to the side of the hitch on your vehicle. When the bolt is tightened it will pull the shank of the bike rack to the side of the receiver hitch. So
