2003 GMC Questions and Answers

  • Does the Jack Motor of the Stromberg Carlson have to be Orientated Forward
  • Theres really no reason why you could not install the Stromberg Carlson Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack # JET-2500 in any orientation on your trailer as you would need as long as it does not interfere with anything. You will want to have the jack itself as a whole orientated. I would not recommend you attempt to rotate the gearbox case as that would not be necessary.

  • Will the K-Source Custom Extendable Towing Mirrors Heat/Electric work on 2003 GMC Sierra w/o Heat
  • Yes, the K-Source Custom Extendable Towing Mirrors w/ Turn Signals # KS62075-76G that you referenced will still install on your 2003 GMC Sierra that has electric mirrors without heat, but since your vehicle is not equipped for the heat function the mirrors would not heat. Basically these mirrors will function exactly like your factory mirrors.

  • Would the Rage Powersports Double Motorcycle Carrier Carry 2 Dirt BIkes or 1 Street Bike
  • The Rage PowerSport Aluminum Double Motorcycle Carrier # AMC6002 that you referenced has a 600 lb capacity so as long as your 2 dirtbikes weight less than that you should be fine. Most dirt bikes weight less than 300 lbs a piece but if you have a dual sport dirt bike you will need to be sure. I would recommend you weigh each bike to be sure that they weigh less than a combined weight of 600 lbs. For your street bike that weights 450 lbs this should work very well for you. I would recommend

  • Will the Universal Sidewinder Wedge Work on a Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
  • In most cases, the universal wedge that comes with the Sidewinder will work. For a Reese 16k hitch like # RP30051, the universal wedge is all you will need. Keep in mind that the hitch will need to always remain locked in the towing position and never slid forward with the Sidewinder installed. Doing so would create problems with too much stress on the system, move the trailer weight too far behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle, and could interfere with the truck tailgate.

  • Replacement Drivers Side Mirror For 2003 GMC Sierra 2500
  • We do have a drivers side mirror for your 2003 GMC Sierra, but the CIPA Replacement Mirror # CM27352 you referenced is not a compatible fit. The most recent GMC Sierra the # CM27352 will fit is the 2002 model. For your vehicle, I recommend the CIPA Replacement Mirror # CM27376, a direct replacement for your Sierras mirror OE # 15048182. The installation is pretty easy as it bolts to existing mounting holes using existing hardware and it comes with a 1-year warranty.

  • Diagnosing Malfunctioning Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller on 2003 GMC Sierra
  • It is pretty unlikely that the factory connection point under the dash where the controller plugs in has been pinned incorrectly. I would begin by checking under the hood to ensure that the final brake controller connections were made at the power distribution box on the inside of the drivers side fender. Depending on how the vehicle was equipped, in may cases this connection was not made on the assembly line. As you can see in the provided photo, look for a red wire with a ring terminal on

  • Parts Needed to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2003 GMC Sierra 6-1/2 ft Bed
  • Since you have a 6-1/2 foot bed you are going to need a sliding hitch like the Curt E5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller # 16516 that you referenced. For the correct installation kit to install this hitch in the bed of your 2003 GMC Sierra you will need a Curt Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16418-104. Now for wiring to allow you to install a trailer 7-way in the bed of your truck as well you would want a Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness # 20110. I attached an installati

  • Can a Fixed Pro Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Change to a Slider for a 2003 GMC Sierra Short Bed
  • Yes, you can change over your 15K Pro Series 5th wheel hitch from a fixed to a slider. You will need to use the Pro Series Fifth Wheel Slider w/ Rollers, # RP30092. I have linked a video and instructions for you. This slider will provide 10 inches of travel. To make sure the slider will provide enough clearance for you to safely make tight turns without hitting the trailer and truck cab together, there is a simple formula you can use. Measure from the center of the hitch jaws where the kin

  • Compatibility of TruXedo TonneauMate Truck Bed Toolbox with 2003 GMC Sierra 1500
  • According to my contact at Truxedo, their TonneauMate toolbox, part # TX1117416 is indeed compatible with your 2003 GMC Sierra, unless you have a flareside, stepside or composite bed. If your truck has the GM Cargo Management System, which is the factory installed tracks along the top edge of the bed side, you will also need a clamp kit, part # TX1117458.

  • Yes, the Thule Replacement EasySnap Housing for Roof Mounted Cargo Boxes, part # 14688, is compatible with your 669ES Mountaineer cargo box. Please note that this part is sold as a single unit, not as pairs. I have included links to some replacement parts that you might need when installing the EasySnap. These include replacement gaskets, part # 14825, that protect the box surface when mounting the EasySnap housing; Replacement Vinyl Hole Covers, part # 10171, that help you plug any open hole

  • Tire Chains for a 2003 GMC Envoy with P245/65R17 Tires
  • If the owners manual mentions a clearance issue then the best bet is to go with Class S chains which require the least amount of clearance around the tires. Tire chains # PWH3227SC are not Class S compatible but we have other chains for your 2003 GMC Envoy that are. If you will not be needed the chains very often or do not live in an area where chains are required by law then I recommend a set of cable style chains, # PW3010C, with tensioner # PW99. • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2003 GMC Yukon XL 2500 6.0 Liter
  • Adding a supplemental cooler is a good idea, but you do not have to replace the factory one unless there is something wrong with it. You can add an additional cooler to work with the factory cooler for the optimum amount of cooling. When looking at transmission coolers I recommend going with the largest one that will fit in the available space in the engine compartment. There are 3 main locations a cooler can go: the most efficient is in front of the air conditioner condenser core/directly be

  • Towing Mirror with Maximum Extension for 2003 GMC Sierra 2500
  • The Longview Towing Mirror, part # CTM1500 would extend just a bit more farther than the CIPA # 10801 and 10802 you are currently using. If you look at the provided photo I provided, you can see that the CIPA product extends 5-1/2 inches beyond the edge of the factory mirror while the Longview # CTM1500 extends by 5-1/8 inches. I do not believe the 3/8 inch larger extension offered by the Longview mirror would make much difference to you. Even a Custom Extendable Towing Mirror like part # KS6

  • Firestone Air Spring Suspension for 2003 GMC Sierra 1500
  • For your 2003 GMC Sierra 1500, the correct Firestone Air Helper Springs would be part # F2320. In order for the springs to fit your truck, the minimum allowable distance between the inside of the tire and the outside of the frame member is 6 inches. Other than drilling mounting holes in the frame members, not modifications are required. You can look at the installation instructions I have linked you to for more information. • Interchangeability of Weight Distribution System Parts
  • If the Fastway round bars just so happened to fit in a Reese (Draw-Tite) weight distribution head, it would be purely coincidental. Neither manufacturer will confirm that their components will work with those of a competitor. When Draw-Tite or Fastway states that a given system is rated for a specific tongue weight, it is because each component of the system has been designed and rigorously tested to ensure that they work together. Once one component is replaced with another part, you have go

  • Tailgate Lift Assist System for a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500

Or for a Tailgate lowering system for a 2003 GMC Sierra, you would need part # DZ43100. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.

  • Tongue Weight Capacity when Using Titan Trailer Hitch Extension RP45292 with Weight Distribution
  • A weight distribution system is used to more evenly distribute the weight of the trailer to all axles of the trailer and tow vehicle. When using the extension, # RP45292, the tongue weight capacity is going to depend on the length the extension is cut to. If it is cut down to 24 inches, the tongue weight capacity 600 pounds. At the 34 inch length the capacity is 450 pounds. It does not sound like you have a weight distribution if you are using the extension and a ball mount and are connected

  • Brake Controller Does Not Activate Trailer Brakes with Brake Pedal on 2003 GMC Sierra 3500
  • There are indeed 2 different brake controller wiring harnesses used between the 2002 and 2003 GMC Sierra. A 2002 would use # 3025-P. The 2003, like you have, uses a # 3015-P. The difference between these 2 harnesses is the way they are pinned out. On # 3025-P the red wire is located next to the white ground wire, and below the black power wire. On # 3015-P the red wire is located next to the blue wire. You will not necessarily need a completely different harness if yours is pinned out

  • Can a Tonneau Cover be Installed on a 2003 GMC Sierra Short Bed with Over the Rail Bed Liner
  • The Access Tonneau Cover, # A22020219, will not fit with an over the rail drop in bed liner. You would need to remove the portion that goes over the rail (making it and under the rail bed liner) to get a tonneau cover to fit. The best option for a 2003 GMC Sierra with a 6-1/2 foot bed is the Craftec cover, # 251929. You will just need to trim the over the rail bed liner where the unit clamps to the truck as opposed to trimming large portions of it.

This model is rated for 19,500 pounds. We also have a 16,000 pound model, # ST400-5AS16K. These units do not come with hardware for mounting. You will need to provide your own hardware. The old hardware should not be used. Make sure to use the same size as the old hardware and that it is grade 5. The units do come

These springs are designed to replace your factory bump stops. Once you remove your factory bump stops these springs will slide into the bump stop mounting location. The installation instructions are included in the box. I have attached a photo showing how the SumoSprings will look once installed.

  • LED Indicator Turns Green then Off with Brake Pedal and No Trailer Attached to 2003 GMC Yukon
  • If the trailer is not connected, when you step on the brake pedal, the indicator light will show green (indicating that you stepped on the brakes) but no power will be sent back so the light will not turn orange or red. The controller sends a signal back to the 7-Way to see if a trailer is connected or not so that is how it knows there is no trailer connected. The 12 volt circuit on the vehicle side or the battery on the trailer side do not affect the brake controller.

  • Will Agri-Cover SnowSport Snowplow # A40000HD Fit a 2003 GMC Savana 2500 AWD Van
  • To be able to use the Agri-Cover SnowSport HD Utility Snowplow, part # A40000HD, on your 2003 GMC Savana 2500 AWD Van, you will need to use a front mount hitch. The only front mount hitch available for your GMC Savana van is the CURT Front Mount 2 Inch Hitch, part # C31016. This hitch will only fit your GMC Savana Van if it has a RV Cutaway Chassis. This is the Savana van that will have an RV attached to the chassis frame from the cab back. I would also recommend to check the owners manu

  • Trailer Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2003 GMC Yukon XL and 2012 Crossroads Sunset Trailer
  • For your 2003 GMC Yukon XL, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. It is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up and use and it offers diagnostics. The P3, # 90195, is a great controller but is geared more towards individual with brake controller experience. It has a lot of diagnostics and features, though and would work well. Both controllers are compatible with electric trailer brake systems as well as electric over hydraulic systems. For your Yukon XL, you will just

  • Brake Controller Installation and Troubleshooting on a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500

The factory port is located in a electrical junction box that is located on the drivers side, below the dash, to the left of the brake pedal. You might want to also check to make sure the blue wire (power wire for 7-Way) and the red wi

  • Will I Need to Drill Any Holes to Install a Roadmaster Base Plate Kit on a 2003 GMC Z71 Sierra 1500

I checked the installation instructions for the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 199-5 and you will not need to drill any holes into the frame of your 2003 GMC Z71 1500 Sierra. You will utilize existing holes in the frame of your vehicle to install this product. The Stowmaster Tow Bar is designed to work with XL base plates and should work well for you application. • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2003 GMC Sierra 4x4 1500
  • I can tell you that the Derale Transmission Cooler Pan, # D14204, fits most 1982-1999 model 4L60Es transmissions. Some models may require a smaller transmission filter to get it to fit. It will not fit on all models. The overall depth of the pan is 3-5/8 inches and the distance to the the 5/8 inch diameter cooling tubes is 2-1/2 inches from the top of the pan. The exhaust has been determined to be a possible hindrance of installing this pan on models newer than 1999. If there were no componen

  • Will the Topline 2 Bike Truck Bed Rack Work with a Clamp on Tonneau Cover Without Damaging Rails
  • The Topline 2 Bike Carrier, # UG2500-4, is designed to clamp around the bed side rail and would most likely not work with a clamp on style tonneau cover, like the LiteRider Roll-Up Tonneau Cover by Access, # 834532001088. It will depend on the style of clamp on rail that your tonneau uses. I attached a photo showing the style of clamp on rail that the LiteRider Roll-Up tonneau uses, see link. First is the Color Screen Evolution, # EP85150, that you have referenced. The other option is the Color Touch Screen Evolution, # EP85250.
