1991 Jeep Questions and Answers

  • Base Plates for a 1991 Jeep Wrangler with Aftermarket Smitty Built Bumper
  • As far as custom fit base plates for a 1991 Jeep Wrangler, we only have options for the factory U-Channel bumpers. You would have to use the Blue Ox bolt-on base plates, # BX88230. They will bolt to a flat part on the bumper. The bumper may need to be modified to use these brackets. I have linked the instructions for you. With the base plates installed you will then need a tow bar. Be sure you can properly space the base plates apart from each other and then you can use the Aventa LX tow bar

  • Can a Front Mount Trailer Hitch be Used to Flat Tow a 1991 Jeep Cherokee
  • A front mount trailer hitch like # 31084 can be used for a winch or for pushing around a trailer to get it in the right position but you can not use it to tow your 1991 Jeep Cherokee. You would not be able to turn properly with a single attachment point at the center of a 4 wheeled vehicle. To flat tow a vehicle you will need a special attachment called base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. Base plates and a front mount hitch cannot both be installed at th

  • Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller to a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Sport
  • To add a 7-Way and wiring for a brake controller you will need the 4 and 7 way installation kit, # ETBC7. This kit provides you with the 7-Way and all the parts needed to wire your 1991 Jeep Cherokee. For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. I have included some installation instructions and a video that should help you with the installation of the ETBC7 and brake controller. Basically, you will plug in the 4-Way you have into the back of the ETBC7. The white wire wil

  • What Size Holes Need to be Drilled to Install Curt Front Hitch # 31084 and Draw-Tite # 65009
  • For the Curt front mount trailer hitch, you will need to drill two 17/32 inch holes in the bottom of the frame rails. There should not be anything inside the frame rail so you should not worry about punching through with the drill. Take a look at the instructions link I have provided for you. The Draw-Tite hitch # 65009 requires a 1/2 inch hole. I have included a link to the instructions for it as well.

  • The Bestop 2-Piece Soft Doors, # B5178315, include doors for the driver and passenger side of the vehicle. I have included a link to the instructions for you. You will see a parts list on the third page that shows 2 pieces for each side. These doors will fit your 1991 Jeep Wrangler if it has a Bestop Supertop B51603, B54603, B54599, Sunrider B51698, or Halftop 53818 soft top.

  • Base Plates, Tow Bar, and Accessories to Flat Tow a 1991 Jeep Cherokee
  • I am not sure what type of base plate system you have but if you can send me pictures I may be able to determine if anything we have will fit. What I recommend is to install a completely new system so you know that it is compatible with a tow bar and you will get all new parts and will not have to worry about the condition of the system. You will also want to consult the vehicle owners manual for the proper procedure for towing the vehicle. For your 1991 jeep Cherokee you can use # 1418-1. Th

  • What Hardware is Included with Curt Trailer Hitch # 13084 for a 1991 Jeep Cherokee
  • Depending on how your 1991 Jeep Cherokee is equipped, there are a couple of different ways to install the Curt Trailer Hitch, # 13084. Your Cherokee sounds like a Type B as explained in the instructions linked below. This would mean that instead of using existing weldnuts to bolt on the hitch, you would need to fishwire bolts and square hole spacers through the frame as you have indicated. The hitch comes with all of the hardware for this type of installation, and for the other types listed

  • Recommended Weight Distribution with Sway Control for Scamp 16 Foot Trailer
  • The Reese Mini-350 Weight Distribution, part # RP66041 that you were looking at is designed for use with Fleetwood or Coleman trailers, I could not guarantee it would work well with your trailer. The Mini-Lite 350 System, part # RP66024 that you mention would be a better choice for you. This system is designed for A-frame trailers with tongue weights ranging from 100-350 lbs. Tongue weight is calculated as 10 to 15 percent of the fully loaded trailer weight, as long as the fully loaded tongue

  • Dimensions of Vehicle Mounting Bracket on Tow Ready Adjustable Tow Bar # 63180
  • I went out to the warehouse and measured the mounting holes in the mounting bracket on the Tow Ready Adjustable Tow Bar, item # 63180. These are 4 inches apart on center. The flat part of the mounting bracket is 2 inches by 5-1/2 inches.

  • Brake Controller Wiring on a 1991 Jeep Cherokee
  • The Jeeps are not pre-wired for brake controllers. The wires need to be run from the back of the Jeep (where the 7-way connector is) to the front and connected to the brake control box and the battery. Since your Jeep already has the 7-way in the rear who ever installed that may have run those extra wires up to the front. You will need to climb under the Jeep and follow the wires coming out of the 7-way plug. If the wires have already been run to the front you really will not need anything besid
